Back-to-School Success Starts with Good Vision

It's hard to believe that summer's almost over. Parents all over are making sure their children have all the gear they need for the upcoming academic year. And if you haven't already done it, it's also a great chance to take your child in to the eye doctor for a comprehensive eye exam.

A huge percentage of school-based learning is achieved visually. Despite the obvious correlation between sight and learning, a lot of parents underestimate or are perhaps uninformed about vision problems, and as a result, don't get their child's eyes checked often enough. As your child's vision may change frequently, regular eye and vision care is central to academic success and overall happiness and wellbeing.

It is especially important to look out for the indicators of vision problems as your child progresses through school. Some warning symptoms include trouble seeing numbers or letters, watery eyes and frequent eye rubbing, squinting, avoiding small print, and head tilting.

Not being able to meet the visual demands at school can significantly affect his/her work. New technology brought into the classroom, such as interactive whiteboards, can even exacerbate less obvious vision problems. Without adequate vision, students may suffer not just at school, but also mentally, physically and emotionally.

If you're the parent of a child who wears glasses already, the start of the school year is a perfect time to see if their current frames are meeting their needs at school. The more a student feels good in his/her glasses, the more they'll be worn!

So don't forget to stop by to see us as part of your back-to-school routine. We'll do our very best to help your child start the year afresh with vision that's in excellent condition.
